Europa's Sensor Sunlight Study!

CRT 399 Final Project
Sunlight Study
Mariam Salinas
As part of our Intermediate Design Studio class final project, our team was tasked with developing sensors that could measure sunlight and temperature data from a specific building. Additionally, we created a website to showcase every detail of this project.
Purpose of the Study
Collect information on the amount of sunlight that reaches buildings using sunlight sensors. Our assigned building was Krannert, which serves as Berry's main building for offices, cafeteria, and food services such as Chick Fil A, Subway, and Freshens.
We analyzed the north, east, south and west outdoor sides of the building.
Study Questions
1. What is the sunlight distribution on Krannert compared to other buildings?

2. What side of Krannert reaches the hottest temperature?

3. What sides of Krannert had light and shade for the longest amount of time?
Electronics Prototypes
Fusion 360 Renderings
Completed enclosures/modules placed on Krannert
Stats
Restated Study Questions
1. What is the sunlight distribution on Krannert compared to other buildings?
Krannert has on average more shade due to overhangs and trees than the other buildings.

2. What side of Krannert reaches the hottest temperature?
South at 130 F.

3. What sides of Krannert had light and shade for the longest amount of time?
The south sensor had light for the longest, and east had the most shade.
Scrum Board Example
Our team used Trello’s weekly scrum board to organize tasks and ensure clear communication, resulting in timely completion of weekly assignments.
Europa's Kiosk
This kiosk was designed on Fusion 360, laser-cutted with plywood and painted with wood paint. To showcase the website, we used an Amazon Fire tablet placed inside the kiosk.
